Help for the victims of the flood needed
On the 23rd of May 2010’ the Vistula river broke a levee in the village of ¦winiary, located in central Poland, region Mazovia. 4400 hectares of land were covered by water. Since then over 1.400 people have been evacuated from their homes in a community that numbers only 4.800 inhabitants. The villages that have suffered include ¦winiary, Nowosiad³o, Juliszew, Sady, Wi±czemin Polski, Nowy Wi±czemin, Zyck Nowy, Zyck Polski, Leonów, Rybaki, Piotrkówek.
People have lost their homes, farm buildings, animals and an entire year’s worth of crops. The village of S³ubice is a typical farm community, and most of the people from the flooded areas make their living from agriculture. Therefore, their tragedy regards not only the loss of a home, but also, the deprivation of their annual income. The water is now withdrawing, but the scope of the disaster is hard to define. To rebuild a normal life will take time and money.
The Ecological and Cultural Association “ZIARNO” and the local Saint Martin Roman-Catholic Church are collecting money for the victims of the flood. This is money that will be spent on re-building houses and farm buildings, in addition to buying basic amenities, such as refrigerators, ovens, plates, furniture etc.

 Like all Poles, we feel the pain after the tragic loss of so many important and brave people of our social life. Thank you to all my friends from around the world for sympathy and solidarity.
Together we pray the words of the psalm:
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins,
O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness;
therefore you are feared.
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
